Project and Submission Requirements

Team Formation - Pre-Event

  • Networking with other participants is encouraged prior to the event, facilitated by a provided Discord channel.
  • Participants should apply individually, even if planning to work in a pre-formed team.
  • Allowed - Familiarizing yourself with tools, packages, and SDK's. Please check all the sponsor resources in our discord!
    • YES: Discuss broad project ideas and excitement about potential collaboration (e.g., "Creating an AR mini-golfing game? Count me in!").
  • Not Allowed - Formulating specific project plans or writing any code prior to the event. Doing so will lead to immediate disqualification.
    • NO: Detail project specifics or planning meetings for pre-event work ****(e.g., "Let's plan the project details on a call”).
Team Formation - At Event

  • Teams should consist of 2 to 4 members.
  • Participants must commit to a single team.
  • Teams cannot seek assistance from people outside of the hackathon.
Project Development (Code of Conduct)

  • No development may start before the actual date and time of the event. Any teams that violate this rule will be automatically disqualified. Please do not begin hacking before Friday, November 10th at 9 PM.
  • The use of project templates is prohibited.
  • Participants are free to use any software development tools, game engines, IDEs, and programming languages.
  • Paid Software Assets - You are NOT allowed to purchase paid art/audio assets. Low-cost paid developer plug-ins are okay. Assets, SDKs, APIs, or other tools or components available under a trial license may be used. When in doubt, ask an organizer.
  • Paid Design tools - For paid creation tools such as Adobe Creative and Solid Works, you are allowed to use any platform available to you. We want to enable designers to continue to work on the platform they are most familiar with.
  • All project intellectual property must be open-sourced and licensed under an approved license (see opensource.org/licenses), with clear license listings in the project code.
  • The license selected by the team must be clearly listed in code (page per page) or a generic page announcing the license the project adheres to. The public code used inside the project should also list the licenses the code is subjected to.
  • A team can use multiple licenses in their project. For example, the public code used could be licensed under the Apache license agreement whereas the code written by the team for their project could be licensed under the MIT license agreement.
  • Submissions must respect the dignity of all individuals and must not contain any elements of discrimination, including but not limited to those based on race, gender, or ethnicity. Projects promoting harm or derogatory themes will be automatically disqualified.

The rules and guidelines for Immerse the Bay have been inspired by and adapted from the MIT Reality Hack event. We express our gratitude to the MIT Reality Hack organizers for providing a robust framework that has helped shape our event and ensure its success.
